The summer season is over. It probably is about time to reconsider, and update any predictions for the best actor line-up of this Oscar year.
This is what, as of now, think will emerge in the line up of the best actor statuette. Some are very strong contenders, and some need more press and marketing. But the truth is we dont really know anything .
1. Brad Pitt- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Brad Pitt, plays a man who is born at the old age of 80 and starts aging backwards.Could this be the role that would impress the academy finally ?The movie is helmed by the awesome David Fincher . I find Brad Pitt an actor who is underrated and overdue. He has managed to turn decent and praise-worthy performances in a number of movies such as last year's Jesse James,Babel, Snatch etc.He is going supporting in the Coens' brothers dark comedy Burn after reading which hopefully would prove to be added support.
2. Benicio Del Toro - Che
In his latest movie, Steven Soderbergh casts Benicio Del Toro as the legendary CHE. Iconic figures from real life have been a hit with the academy before .It has worked a number of times into getting actors nominated (Anthony Hopkins-Nixon, Joaquin Phoenix - Johnny Cash ) and possible winners (Jamie Foxx - Ray Charles, Forest Whittaker - Idi Amin) .Would this be a chance to get Benicio Del Toro a statue as a leading actor
3. Sean Penn - Milk
Sean Penn stars as Harvey Milk, San Francisco's first elected gay official. Would the academy give him a nod or would it be a controversial a la Brokeback Mountain ?
4. Frank Langella - Frost/Nixon
Frank Langella is a Hollywood veteran who has done amazing work in the past.He is starring in this movie as none other than President Nixon, and he is being interrogated by Martin Frost .Veterans get their overdues , right ? Wrong ... ask Peter O'Toole (Venus)... or go Supporting, you have a better chance !
5 . Viggo Mortensen - The Road
Viggo Mortensen stars in this movie based on a Cormac McCarthy book as a dad in a post-apocalyptic Earth in search of something, and trying hard to keep his son safe. Will additional turns in post-war movie Good , and Appaloosa ( a western helmed by Ed Harris ) support this actor, or cause him a split of votes. Also, does he has enough star power to take him all the way to the Kodak Theatre in March next year ?
Other potential contenders, who might surface later this year :
Leonardo DiCaprio - Revolutionary Road
Jamie Foxx - The Soloist
Hugh Jackman - Australia
Daniel Craig- Defiance
Phillip Seymor Hoffman -Synecdoche ,NewYork / Doubt
Until a later post , Peace !

On Life : As of 31st of August
It has been a while since I last updated my little blog.More than two months to be precise .Alot has happened ,let me tell ya ...
I started working in a very prestigious bank for a short two month internship . I liked the atmosphere over there, and it really was an eye opener as to what field I should pursue in the future . I know for a fact it might not be accounting . Yeah, see I told you . I can hear the unexcited shudders. It might be private equity though .. or even hedge funds .. may be islamic finance .. Alot of options all around , 1 year to graduate and I am still no way near my final decision. I think I should deal with it when ever the need arises.
I have also enjoyed the company of other fellow interns ... smart, party-loving, politically-indulged, carefree, cant-be-bothered, at times silly but always fun !
I also spent some time thinking about my 1 year internship abroad, where to go , and what would be the best experience I could have . Countries ranging from Switzerland to Singapore have crossed my mind, and at least this , I have an answer to ... not confused that much , thank God!
I also watched a number of movies ... yup ...the Dark Knight is that awesome movie of the summer that everyone says it is ! But that requires another post . Wall-E and Kung Fu Panda were good too, with very possible best animation Oscar nods in the way . Besides these good movies, I have seen something that I can only be classified as a major waste of time , and of 3 BD I am not getting back ... Yeah, its that mummy movie set in China ... seriously ! IN CHINA ! Never mind !
I have had good times with friends who left, friends who will leave and friends who came back.
I have also went back on working on the Bridging The Gap project that will happen this year as part of AIESEC's Initiatives in Bahrain. All looks good, with different people on board.Cant wait to see what will happen!
Until a future post , Peace !
